Search Upgrade Starts Today
The AutoQuotes Cloud Servers have been amplified to deliver simpler, faster, and smarter searches in the AutoQuotes Product Catalog. The new Search starts today.
The new Catalog Search is similar to the Google Search Bar. There is no longer a dropdown necessary to start showing results. Models, Manufacturer Names, Brands, and Categories appear each time you type a character into the Catalog Search Bar. And the Search is very accurate.
Type 15244, get only a Libbey Gibraltar Glass.
Type Mandolin, get only Mandolins and parts.
Type Bon Chef to see only Bon Chef Products, Brands, and Categories.
You can type partial words. You type vul gas ran 36 you will find only and all the Vulcan 36” gas ranges.
Do NOT press ENTER unless you want a deeper search that searches every word in every spec in the catalog. Typing Dog finds 16 categories of Hot Dog Grills and Steamers. Pressing enter gets you 16 Hot Dog categories, plus doggy handles, doggy cookie makers, dog tick spray, and doggy shaped candy makers.
Give it a try, and share your thoughts, your opinions, and your suggestions.

I did as suggested and typed "Dog" in the search bar, i did NOT press enter. My results started with all Eagle products. Not the results as outlined above.
why?
Permalink Reply by Karl Williams on September 1, 2011 at 10:26am Hello Michael,
The reason your Eagle items are showing first is because your company has them setup in the MFR setup as preferred. However, we did notice some Eagle items that didn't belong in the search results, and we are correcting it now.

Permalink Reply by Greg Morris on September 1, 2011 at 11:53am Does the new search function also affect the contacts searching, etc.? So far, I am getting a much slower response on the catalog searches.
Now I am starting a quote, but the search will not find the customer I need to add to the quote? When I am in the Contacts tab, the customer I need is right there, but when I start a new project, the search does not find his name? What to do?
Please help, just trying to do a quote, but need to add a name?

The new search does not affect the contacts search. It only affects the Catalog Search Bar. We will contact you to investigate the contact search issue you metion above.
Permalink Reply by Darcy Redditt on September 1, 2011 at 6:11pm Hello,
I realize the new search function is for the catalog search and not the quick item search when you are doing a quote, but have a comment about the quick search. Say I'm doing a quote and type in 3411 in the quick search box because I want to quote the Vollrath 3411 Centurion Fry Pan. The quick search results come back with about 100 All Points items that all start with 34-11 but the 3411 I'm looking for isn't even listed. Any remedies?
Hi Darcy-
This is unusual because of the sheer number of All Points items that start that way combined with the limitation of records we can display in the dropdown. Remember however that you can search the model # & the manufacturer at the same time. Search "vol 3411," or "3411 vol." Or search the model # & the brand (or pattern)"3411 centur" (Centurion). Combined searches like this (if you know more than just the model #) can be very effective. Start with the model number....if the results aren't narrow enough, type a space, then start typing the manufacturer's name (or a brand name). Hope this helps. Have a good evening.
Permalink Reply by Tom Tully on September 3, 2011 at 4:20am I don't see any improvement. Sometimes it appears to be quicker for specific items, but I still see an average of three crashes per day while searching. I think that getting the fundamentals correct would be more important than faster.

Thank you for discussing this issue with me today on the phone. I also spoke with Henry in your company's IT support. From what we can tell so far these issues occurred after you had to upgrade your PCs operation system. The error logs on our end indicated that there may have been some hardware issues on your end that may have caused the issues. We have asked for you to upgrade the drivers for that hardware and to possibly replace it (as a test) to see if the issues remain.
If you continue to get the errors, please send me the email I requested of you, and we will continue our research.
